Our Story

Higher Elevations Learning Place is built on a simple idea. Real growth comes from the work of pushing past what felt possible yesterday.

Through a play-based curriculum, we build in moments of challenge. Children stretch, they stumble, they get back up, and they find out they can do more than they thought.

The mountain in our logo carries the whole story. For Desi and me it stands for the climbs we have taken, the literal ones and the harder ones. We keep it in front of us as a reminder that success is never a straight line up. Every summit comes with scraped knees and uncertain footing.

Reaching one takes grit. It also takes the hands of the people climbing beside you. When we look out for each other and belay one another through the hard passages, higher elevations stop being a hope and start being a matter of time.

That is the spirit we breathe into every corner of this place.

Our Mission

Welcome to Higher Elevations Learning Place. Children, families, and educators learn together here, and the days are joyful on purpose.

Our program draws on the best of Reggio Emilia and Montessori. Both start from the same place. A child is curious, capable, and ready to explore the world with purpose. For infants and wobblers we follow the RIE model. That means respectful caregiving, responsive relationships, and room for the youngest children to build confidence through movement they begin themselves.

Playful inquiry drives every classroom. Children investigate questions that matter to them, experiment with materials, and chase ideas that reflect who they are and where they come from.

We weave anti-bias practices into ordinary days, so every child feels seen and free to celebrate what makes them different and what they share. We teach the Habits of Mind from the earliest ages, building persistence, creativity, problem-solving, and flexible thinking.

Family partnership sits at the center of all of it. We listen closely, we learn with you, and we build trust around shared hopes for your child.

At Higher Elevations Learning Place we lift the whole world around a child. One family, one partnership, one community connection at a time.

Our Tools & Foundational Supports

Child reading in grass

We lean on a handful of tools and community partners to support children and families. Brightwheel is our main line to you. Photos, videos, daily reports, invoicing, and tuition payments all live there.

Our Cascade classrooms get weekly visits from SMART Reading, short for Start Making A Reader Today. Volunteer readers come in and help build a love of books early. Learn more about SMART Reading here.

Our Parent Advisory Council guides school improvements, strengthens family connections, and helps shape where the program goes next.
